Salvation Comes

“Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house……….” Luke 19:9a

Since the age of eleven following a dramatic turnaround in my mother’s health, I had carried with me the notion there was a God. I was from a loving but not a religious home and for sixteen years I was trying to please a God of my own imagination due to my mother’s healing. I had never heard the Gospel but through a series of circumstances both myself and Jude came to a saving knowledge of Christ on Saturday 8th June 1991.

Jude had been invited to a local church through a friend she worked with and I went along. It was the first time I had heard the Bible taught in a powerful way. The church was very friendly and we soon began to attend regularly. In June 1991 the evangelist Billy Graham visited Glasgow and we participated in the campaign through a live link in a local hall.

As the week progressed, even some of our own families attended but it was the Saturday evening that everything changed. Billy Graham spoke on “Remember Lot’s wife”, and when Billy’s message came to a close, he seemed to labour at the end. He made his famous appeal for those to come to Christ and to make their way down to the front. Suddenly, it becomes a very personal thing, Jesus speaking to us, His death on the cross for my sin, His blood shed to bring forgiveness, His resurrection after three days, forgiveness and eternal life for those who repent of their sins and put their trust in Him.

Because it’s such a personal thing, I had not noticed Jude was somewhere down at the front and the ladies from the church were united in prayer for her as she was being counselled. It was then in those closing moments a great impression of Christ came upon me also, the invitation to have my sins forgiven and a new life given and I accepted without hesitation………what a joy!!!

“So, Saturday evening 8th June 1991 both of us were delivered from the power of darkness and translated into the Kingdom of His dear Son Jesus”.

As I close this chapter my heart is filled with so much gratefulness that salvation visited our home. When the valleys came, His promises remained true that He would never leave us nor forsake us. I can never thank God enough and for eternity I will remind Him of that, together with Jude who has gone before.

Prayer

Life only makes sense when we come to Christ, believe me. In the midst of a corrupt and decaying world system I pray if you are outside of Christ you can come to know & love Him, to experience through His dying work on the cross, the forgiveness of sin and a new life given. It is His desire that none would perish but come to repentance.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen
