The Sick Counsels The Carers

“But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. 2 Corinthians 4:7

This chapter thrills my soul, it is one of the reasons why I am so proud of Jude that even in her own weakness she reached out and allowed Jesus to display His power to others. I come to believe with all my heart that true ministry is grounded in personal brokenness. Just look at the life of Jesus especially Gethsemane when He fully submitted to His Fathers will.

One day a particular nursing assistant asked Jude for advice about her struggling marriage. Jude was able to counsel and remember her in prayer.

On another occasion a nurse had spotted Jude’s Bible and started to chat. It turned out she had been brought up in Sunday school but like many had drifted away. Jude encouraged her to pick up a Bible again and start reading John’s Gospel.

A nurse had asked Jude what she thought, ”Heaven would be like”. In her own typical style she replied, “There will be none of the nonsense up their as we see down here!”

Her witness was special and often in a quiet way, she rarely complained about her condition and many doctors and nurses picked up on this. She wasn’t ashamed to mention her LORD.

Only glory will ever reveal the true measure of what happened, it will form part of her crown.

Prayer

Father, I can only say it has to be supernatural how you enable us to minister to others when we ourselves are hurting and in pain.

You prove time & time again that if we make available these weak vessels you will demonstrate your power and you will be glorified.

For those who are sick, hospitalised, I pray you will present opportunities to them to shine like Jesus amongst others even in their pain.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen
